THE CURIOUS CASE OF MINTY GREEN

4

“It all began as she undressed,
And peered beneath her minty dress.
From out of nowhere came the urge,
To go on a discovery surge.”

And so begins the delightful tale of Minty Green, and her quest to learn more about the human body. Before long, from peeking at her mother through the shower curtain, to assessing the wobble of her gran’s neck, Minty discovers that there is much more to being human than she originally thought.

A picture book covering five categories:

Body awareness- from tummy rolls to birth marks, Minty begins to explore the intricacies of her form.
Womanhood- Minty investigates her mother’s body and discovers a little more about the changes that come with maturing.

Opposite Sex- after spying on her Dad while getting changed, she makes several very profound findings, one being: “Oh, how lucky, fancy that- You’ve got some hairs out front to plait”.

Ageing- young Minty moves her investigative studies over onto her gran. She takes note of the extra wobbles and creases that seem to come with old age. “I wish my neck could also wobble. Come on Gran, let’s gobble gobble”.

The world at large- from skin color, to same sex parents, Minty finds wonder in diversity.

The book concludes with Minty embracing the idea of discovering further differences that exist between humans. To maintain the notion of inclusivity, Alida continually brings its readers back to the line – ‘but even still, we’re much the same’.

Through its bright illustrations and Minty’s amusing antics, ‘The Curious Case of Minty Green’ is sure to capture the hearts, and open the minds, of young children.
